About our Library

The Bulli Public School Library is an inviting learning space that encourages children to read, reflect, wonder, question and learn. The library supports classroom programs and aims to foster a love of reading for pleasure. Students are encouraged to collaborate, communicate, investigate and learn in a comfortable, safe and enjoyable environment. Our collection is ever-expanding as we aim to keep it fresh, relevant and up to date with amazing literature. We have a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books, games, aboriginal artefacts and technology.

Learning in the Library

All classes visit the library once a week for borrowing, literature enrichment and a library lesson incorporating history, geography and research. In years 3-6, students work using iPads and laptops to research information. Students can access the Bulli Public School library catalogue via the student DoE portal by logging in to ‘Oliver Library’ using their student log in and password. Students are able to search for their favourite books and authors, check on their current loans and look for books they’d like to borrow in the future.

Borrowing

During library lessons, students are encouraged to borrow books from our selection of fiction and non-fiction texts, according to their interests and reading and development level. Students can borrow multiple books in Stage 2 and Stage 3 each week. All students need to have a library bag or waterproof bag to borrow books.

Opening Times

The library is open Monday-Thursday for library lessons and borrowing. The library is also open for lunchtime activities every week between Monday-Wednesday. Students are invited to come and enjoy reading, drawing, games, jigsaws and movies. Laptops and iPads are also available for students to access during lunch time. Lunch time activities are fun and engaging but the library is also a calm space where students can read quietly or socialise with friends.

Library Monitors

Bulli Public School has a group of keen Stage 3 students who help assist in the library. These students are elected each year by the Teacher Librarian and are part of the school’s leadership team. They assist during lunch time activities with shelving and oversee the lunch time recreational program. The school’s library monitors communicate the activities running each week at the Monday morning whole-school assembly.

Special Events

Each year Bulli Public School students participate in Book Week to celebrate Australian books and authors. We have a book character dress up parade and Scholastic Book Fair. Simultaneous Storytime is celebrated by students in Years K-6 in May each year. Students in Years 3-6 participate in the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge which runs from March – August. All students are supported to enter in a number of local and national creative art, poetry and writing programs across the school year and are able to complete these activities during lunchtime activities in the library and during library lessons.
